  • On the main square of Ascoli, named Ventidio Basso, we discover, almost in the middle of it, the Church of Saints Vincent and Anastasius, the result of the work carried out in various centuries. In fact, while the nave, apse, and the bell tower are from the 9th century with restoration of the 11th century, the aisles, the façade and the southern flank, are traced back to the 14th century. The Bell Tower, gives the idea of a Tower House, with massive arched mullioned Windows, resting in the Center on a slender standoff, while the apse is polygonal, with prismatic elevation. The main façade, is the most fascinating thing, as formed by a magnificent 64 reticulated panes surrounded by travertine, relief frames enclosing once frescoes showing facts and figures of the faith. In the middle of it, you open a superb website, with spiral columns and Roman-Corinthian capitals above, elegant, which support, layout and concentric ribs. Seeing, inside the bezel, three marble figures carved in high relief: the sitting Madonna with the baby in her lap, in the Center; and Saints Peter and Anastasius, respectively, left and right. Of note, for artistic merit, the sculptures of two lions, places on the central arch, reminding the shapes and carvings. The Interior has three naves, with arches resting on square pillars, and at the bottom, there is the polygonal apse. Finally, of high historical, is the crypt, dating from the 6th century, dedicated to Saint Sylvester Pope, located under the chancel. In it, you can see the square-shaped, where immersed the lepers, to be healed by a miraculous water that flowed from a spring, made then divert over the past century. Also, do not go unnoticed, the frescoes, the 400, placed in the vault and walls, depicting moments of life of San Silvestro, among the lepers. Therefore, I recommend a visit.

  • less note of people's square or piazza Dell Aringo, piazza Ventidio Basso is still a gem not to be missed. All travertine is an elegance rare for churches and historic buildings that surround it: If you go to Ascoli is a must

  • Beautiful, very basic, bare, the crypt was closed. Beautiful high external relief above the door. Is one of 4 churches in piazza ventidio basso, renovated, where until recently there was a parking lot. many archaeological findings under the square, of which some remains on the back side of this church.
