Piazza del Popolo, Ascoli Piceno

(4.7/5 based on 1,300+ reviews on the web)
Piazza del Popolo was once a gateway to Rome for travelers from the north and a nexus of one of the ancient empire's most important roads. Today, you can admire the Neoclassical plaza's 24 m (78.7 ft) Egyptian obelisk, cupolas, and archways. The fountains were designed in the first half of the 19th century. Visit the churches of Santa Maria Montesanto, Santa Maria dei Miracoli, and Santa Maria del Popolo. The latter is built upon Roman Emperor Nero's resting place. • This is a must to see, what an adorable town. It takes you back in time. The buildings were historical and charming. I felt like we were in Roma but no crowds of people rushing around.
