#1 of 202 in Things to do in Province of Arezzo
Landmark Tourist Spot
Step into the red-brick Piazza Grande in Arezzo to admire Gothic and Renaissance-era palaces and the 700-year-old church of Santa Maria della Pieve. You'll see decorative monuments to, among others, a member of Italy's powerful Medici family. People-watch at your choice of cafes and restaurants. The plaza is slanted downhill, so remember to walk with care if it's wet out. Add Piazza Grande and other attractions to your Arezzo trip itinerary using our Arezzo vacation builder.

  • This piazza is lovely -- guidebooks describe it as sinking on one side but according to our guide the construction of it, with its slant, is intentional. According to her it makes for easy clean up on...  more »
  • I expect this square would rate a higher rating but currently there are undertaking construction work in the square so not at it best. Restaurants/cafes and shops surround the square.  more »

  • Beautiful and Historic. Try and always eat outside any piazza Grande because those are always very touristy.
  • Neat piazza. They were preparing for Christmas when I was there, which was cool to see. Really cool to note is the columns on the church are not all alike...
  • Old views and historical buildings and streets as well PANORAMAS is the best!
  • Nice square in the center of Arezzo full of cafes and small shops.
  • Amazing buildings and Art and expert in the office opposite the Etruscan museum, to explain it. Eduardo is so keen and knowledgeable and leads tours for €13/person. The highlight of our day.
