Duomo San Donato, Arezzo

(4.7/5 based on 500+ reviews on the web)
Duomo San Donato is a cathedral featuring historic frescoes, including an especially popular painting of St. Mary Magdalene. You may find the architecture plain compared to other ornate churches, but the simplicity only highlights the interior artwork. Look for the stained-glass windows, which depict different religious stories and figures. Most light inside comes from candles, which adds to the peaceful atmosphere. Duomo San Donato is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our world travel planner, Arezzo Edition.

  • Cathedral of Saint Peter and Saint David. The risk that goes with entering a cathedral is not to get excited about, but this is really rich. The visit is free. The things I liked most: the Magdalene by Piero della Francesca, the tomb of scientist Francesco Redi, the Ark of the tomb of Saint Donato the patron saint of the city and especially I recommend the contemporary silver nickel-bronze altar that represents an Angel. The choir was built by Vasari.

  • I visited the Cathedral of Arezzo and was amply repaid by the beauty of the Church, an imposing and well maintained. Certainly worth a visit and deserves even greater attention from tourists who sometimes camp out on the steps outside. Very good experience, comes up almost enraptured.

  • It is a beautiful gothic structure located at the top of the Hill of Arezzo, with pictorial and sculptural decorative Gothic Renaissance both works, which sometimes are overlapping in the background; beautiful stained glass Windows and huge. Don't miss the tomb of Pope Gregory X, the Cenotaph of Guido Tarlati, Bishop, an altar, a fresco of Mary Magdalene, beautiful and lovely artwork of Piero della Francesca.
