Duomo San Donato, Arezzo
(4.7/5 based on 480+ reviews on the web)
Duomo San Donato is a cathedral featuring historic frescoes, including an especially popular painting of St. Mary Magdalene. You may find the architecture plain compared to other ornate churches, but the simplicity only highlights the interior artwork. Look for the stained-glass windows, which depict different religious stories and figures. Most light inside comes from candles, which adds to the peaceful atmosphere. Duomo San Donato is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our world travel planner, Arezzo Edition.

  • We visited the Cathedral during a day spent in Arezzo during the Christmas markets. The façade built in 900 it's splendid and imposing with the central rose window in mosaic. Curious also the history linked to the construction of the tower. Unfortunately during lunchtime when we passed was not open, disappointed given the amount of people present and the time of year.

  • Important, impressive but at the same time not overly opulent. Fine example of neo-Gothic style rises on a hill, thus remains visible from Arezzo with the tall Bell Tower. Within many works, the famous our Lady of consolation to which is related the "legend" of the earthquake. Worth visiting.

  • The most valuable piece of religious art collection boasting Arezzo! Imposing, majestic and the great visual effect in the context of the square. You can reach very easily from parking via Pietri (if you're lucky there are also many free places) through stairs or using the escalator! Gorgeous!
