  • I understand the disappointment of not having been able to visit, I don't understand the need to give bad vote this monument to "punish" those who did not answer the phone. The basilica of Ardara, cappella palatina of judges of Torres is inserted in the routes of the Romanesque in Sardinia. Is built almost strategically rising up the valley below the village of Ardara. Inside there are 2 majestic politicci of 500 of which the largest is the largest in Sardinia. Remarkable also the representations of the Apostles and 4 columns leaning against the doctors of the Church. A short distance then we find the remains of the Castle and the judicial Palace of Ardara, closely connected to the basilica while a few Km we have other jewels of Sardinian Romanesque: Bisarcio and Saccargia while son instead closed to the public two other churches in this style: St Michael & St Anthony of Salvenero.

  • We visited the Church at noon, we could not within, but a glimpse through a glass door. A beautiful altarpiece looked at us. Beautiful wall paintings from all sides, and so on.

  • Coming via the "direttissima" Oschiri-Olbia, take a secondary to Ardara. On the northern outskirts of the village of Ardara, close and almost subsumed to the town, is situated on a small piazza Santa Maria del Regno. Leave your car in the adjacent streets and stop to admire it inside and out. It is very important because it represents the only evidence of what was the capital of the Giudicato (Kingdom of Torres) in the middle ages. It was the residence of the Bishop of Bisarcio (more prominent place not to be missed for via della Cattedrale di sant'antioco). S. Maria del Regno is simple in its structure in black stone of trachyte and Romanesque-Pisan style and has always been a point of reference: it was the oath and the investiture of judges of Torres. Inside, very impressive due to the dark color of the walls, on the high altar there is a beautiful icon of the 16th century altarpiece with scenes from the life of Christ magnificently renovated. Also interesting are the frescos on the columns of the nave (17th century?): recently restored partly bear the images of apostles and fathers of the Church who welcome the passage of the visitor with Dour faces. The visit to this preciousness is worth the trip. Find out about opening times in different seasons.
