  • I was today (feb 25) at the Museum with my friend and it was a beautiful experience. Thanks to archaeologist who was at the Museum today, we were able to discover the explanation. If I hadn't had his translation, would be a usual Museum Tour and I couldn't remember anything about what I saw. The archaeologist has been very good to explain: clear, simple and easy. The people in the reception were friendly. I am not sure whether archaeologist could be there and explain but if you have a chance to do, I recommend you to follow his guide. It helps a lot to see and to understand not only the collection of museum but also the city.

  • Museum located in the Centre of Aosta, you must purchase tickets here to see all the other sites. The route starts from below, in the basement you can visit the remains of the ancient Roman city, a tower and a port city. Is a charming place with the curiosity to be interspersed with panels bearing phrases of philosophers poets writers. Then begins the path to the museum itself, from the remains of primitive peoples of the Valley, to Roman to Lord it to finish in the middle ages. Don't miss some reconstructions. Good teaching and enlightenment.

  • 95% of all information provided is in French and Italian. Therefore not suitable for anyone that requires information in English. Highly disappointing that no one at the entrance informed us beforehand!
  • The Aosta Valley Regional Archaeological Museum (in French, Musée archéologique régional de la Vallée d'Aoste), abbreviated to MAR, is an archaeological museum in Aosta. The Museum is located in the place where once stood in Roman Porta Principalis Sinistra. Under the Museum, in fact, excavations were conducted (ongoing) to unearth the remains of the door. Part of these excavations is already accessible via walkways within the Museum. Already fortified House of nobles Vaudan, the building has hosted since 1633 the Visitandine convent, founded at the behest of Marquis Pierre-Philibert Roncas and his wife Emérentienne de Vaudan, who intended to give a home to the Sisters of santa Jeanne Françoise Frémiot de Chantal (Jeanne de Chantal). From 1802 became Barracks Challant, while some wings of the Palace were used for various purposes, from stable, in theater until stock of agricultural tools. Today the barracks was decommissioned and the building houses the regional archaeological museum. The collections the Museum has many archaeological findings in the entire Valle d'Aosta which are arranged in chronological order. Prehistory the prehistoric consist of funeral ornaments, glass, clay pots and anthropomorphic carved stele. This collection will be housed in the future in the Museum which will be built on the megalithic area of Saint-Martin-de-Corléans. The Romans the Museum has a variety of Roman remains. There are funerary objects, glassware (plates, glasses ...), parts of statues, items from the theatre, cutlery and common games. The model of Augusta Prætoria in the Museum there is also a model of the Roman city of Augusta Prætoria Salassorumricostruita based on the ruins of the Roman buildings throughout Italy.

  • I could describe it with two words: innovative, human. It is not only about exposure but also to view, to observe and absorb, reflect, ponder, soaking up the introspection. If men throughout history have left marks, this museum keeps them alive and make your mark.

  • This museum manages to make a fun dive into history. Very nice idea of the drawers containing a lot of information about how people lived in ancient times (from prehistoric to Roman times).
