  • On the coast of Anzio, a small town on the coast south of Rome, there are the remains of the magnificent villa used by all Roman emperors, from Augustus to the severe. The construction thereof, perched on a cliff and fortified by niches and buttresses still visible, was begun in the Republican era in the mid-2nd century BC; After the complex was gradually enlarged by various owners with different structures like the Temple of Fortuna Anziatina, the theatre and during the Severan period the baths with the "calidarium". Inland stretched pavilions, fountains, gardens, vegetable gardens and terraces. The Emperor Nero, born at Anzio on 15 December, ad 37, had even a library and Museum Service (from which come the Apollo Belvedere, the Borghese Gladiator and la Fanciulla d'anzio) and also the port, with two piers, now joined by another parallel, to prevent corrosion. The wide Beach in front of the villa, equipped with bathing facilities only in the vicinity of the lighthouse, is more than 800 metres and is protected by breakwaters which make the calm waters of the Bay. It is enclosed on the North by the head of the Arco Muto and South from Capo d'anzio and characterized by the ancient port warehouse called "Grotte di Nero". The evocative ruins of the imperial residence embrace in a semicircle the bather from the sea, looking at them, it is literally spellbound.

  • There is no other place like this in the world. The ruins of the villa of Nero so far below the surface of the water actually come in the form of pieces of brick and opus reticulatum! Although neglected and poorly maintained is a unique archaeological site beautiful loving it!! must see!

  • Run down to the beach and once. The old caves are used today as a shady spot of the bathers. Much see can not unfortunately, but you can see that it must have been once huge. If the system is to visit properly, was not recognizable. All locked; We have searched in vain information panels or similar.
