Lago di Martignano, Anguillara Sabazia

#1 of 16 in Things to do in Anguillara Sabazia
Lake Martignano, is a small lake in Lazio, Italy 15mi north-north-west of Rome, in an extinct crater or maar. Administratively its coast is divided amongst the municipalities of Rome, Anguillara Sabazia and Campagnano di Roma.OverviewIn ancient times Lake Martignano was part of southern Etruria and called Alsietinus Lacus. Augustus drew from it the Aqua Alsietina; the water was hardly fit to drink, and was mainly intended to supply his naumachia (lake made for a sham naval battle) at Rome, near San Francesco a Ripa, on the right bank of the Tiber, where some traces of the aqueduct were perhaps found in 1720. The course of the aqueduct, which was mainly subterranean, is practically unknown: Frontinus tells us that it received a branch from the lake of Bracciano near Careiae (Galera): and an inscription relating to it was found in this district in 1887.There is a lawn beach, lake-side cafes and restaurants, and walking tracks.Nearby townsCampagnano di RomaBraccianoAnguillara SabaziaTrevignano RomanoOriolo RomanoSutriCapranicaCesano

  • After many years in which I visited this paradise, I arrived this summer in 2017 and found out that unfortunately the beautiful service no longer bars, for what they said was a decision of the municipality of Anguillara Sabazia, in that it introduced the restriction being a natural park, sadly now it's hard to get there and could not longer use the services of bar kiosks is complicated to stay there for a whole day , a pity ... the guys who ran the bar kiosks provided a great service and a cure in the environment left now to himself. I hope one day to find an organization.

  • As already written on some reviews from others previously, Lake returned to its origins is a protected nature reserve and not a tourist beach to get a Tan! Fond of walks I've arrived on foot (from Anguillara) taking advantage of the special hiking and biking path that, despite having been partially ravaged by fire manslaughter is perfectly reported even with interesting information boards and gives the possibility to admire the view over the Valley of the monti sabatini and near Lake bracciano. Arrived at the small lake Martignano you will enjoy unspoilt nature. Surrounded by greenery, relax in Black Beach or stroll through the circular route of the pineta (alas partly burnt). The limitations and rules by which many complain are to dismiss the uncivil, and avoid especially the radical chic and tourism from sun-loungers-barretto at the beach. If you are a nature lover you should just appreciate. For the disabled, families with children, the elderly or those who simply did not want to walk there is a shuttle every 15 minutes from the parking lot below and stops right just above the beach of the Lake (like any bus goes paid a ticket). The Lake is stunning with multicolored small fish, newts, birds, dragonflies and lots of vegetation. Get a good and healthy walk and bring a healthy "lunches" in the backpack, enjoy the true nature.

  • I come back after two years and everything has changed. The road leading to the Lake and the old Park & ride, where he took the shuttle, it is no longer viable is now all Ztl (with camera) but the warning sign is placed very high up on the turn and is covered by tree crowns (then carried out on the Lake, walk 5 meters and you're done) be careful! the new Park & ride is discreetly indicated. The costs are 5 euro for parking + 2 euros per person for the van (children under 5 years free) the Shuttle operates until 19.00, eye then the clock. The old restaurants/bars on the Lake are gone, the first of an Exchange you will find only one camionbar, with prices from "Hamed" monopoly, then adjust to a homemade catering if you like. The Lake is still magnificent, all clearing and with few people ... I liked it much longer.

  • Very beatiful
  • Beautiful Lake although there are but ... First you can go by your own car, you risk being fined because the road is ztl, reason of the smart ones just ahead have created a "parking lot" in €5 and there is a shuttle that runs and you do get to pick up the Lake and costs €2 per person. Runs every hour till 18.00 there are open services such as bathrooms, bars or restaurants, open only in the summer season! The Lake is not maintained well, and is not controlled. C is the ban on fishing is a family was there with the fishing rod. We became the residence since some sort of outbreak, books and more ... It's a shame because it could give a lot.

  • Corner of paradise on Earth with an attempt to absolutely positively in the municipality of Anguillara to handle the tourist activity of a portion of the Lake. Access road to the Lake closed with ztl, eliminating annoying hordes with cars up to the banks; parking not cemented and shuttle open to friends on all fours with a price more than acceptable in AR. We hope for a sound environment, helpful at all.
