The square is known as Piazza del Papa for the statue of Pope Clement Xii, who sits in the Center and blesses the city of Ancona, which was expensive and did embellish by Vanvitelli. Behind the statue there is the Church of San Domenico and beside several beautiful palaces. The square is rectangular and uphill, with a staircase that goes up to the Church. You can visit the Museum of the city and not go unnoticed the fontanone or fountain of the beheaded, with bas-reliefs of the heads of the martyrs for freedom.

Piazza del papa is definitely the most beautiful square of Ancona, you can breathe in both the old and the new, the old given the impressive church and statue of Pope, the new from the many famous clubs in Ancona to make appetizer.

  • This square, otherwise known as the square of the Pope, it's a bit the parlor of the city of Ancona. Open bar and some good restaurants well-known invite you to linger. Seeing the front of the Basilica and the elegant staircase in travertine.

  • The historic heart of Ancona, knot button that connects two parts of a single whole, city on one side and the Harbour on the other, accessible from alleys that cut large and airy main courses, Piazza del Plebiscito, more commonly known as Piazza del Papa, you open like an oyster to the upwelling along the Guasco hill, showing a small heart now converted back to the nightlife of the capital. Below this lively worldliness are visible the great historical works that characterize the square, first and foremost the statue of Clemente XII, behind the façade of San Domenico and amidst the City Museum; such a keen eye can not escape the sculpted decorations that adorn the two (a highly visible, the second a little less known) fountains of the square. The maze of alleys leading to the Cathedral, which dominates the Guasco hill, is full of churches and historic buildings that cover the story and its rich cultural heritage: the pinacoteca comunale, palazzo Ferretti and the Palace of the elders are the Capitoline triad is essential on the road leading to the beautiful Cathedral of San Ciriaco.
