  • This Cathedral dedicated to the patron saint of Ancona is located in one of the most scenic spots of the city and overlooks the Guasco hill port. Visit not to be missed. The Cathedral was built on the ruins of an early Christian Church, the first settlement dates back to the 6th century, and then undergo an expansion in the 9th century. In the twelfth century a further expansion of the building becomes a Greek cross as it is currently. Always be visited in daytime hours, is an example of a Romanesque church and decorations that embellish the look. The façade is King look with two lions in Verona red marble columns that support the portal. Inside you can visit the underground where it guarded the body of the patron saint of the city. In the church there are marble bas-reliefs on pinkish background dated end 1100 and attributed to Leonardo, portray two Griffins, a pair of ibis with necks crossed, an eagle. Other panels show characters of the old testament. The Interior also houses valuable paintings from the 15th to the 18th century.
