Monte Solaro, Anacapri
Categories: Mountains, Nature & Parks
The highest point on the island of Capri, Monte Solaro is topped with two significant structures. A statue of Emperor Augustus, the man who first landed on the Capri, depicts a very muscular emperor and is affixed to the side of the mountaintop. The Fortino di Bruto was used as a blockhouse in battles between France and Britain in the 19th century. To reach the summit, use either the Passetiello nature trail or the path that begins at Axel Munthe. Plan to wear lightweight clothing and sturdy walking shoes. Take a look at our Anacapri tour planner to schedule your visit to Monte Solaro and learn about what else to see and do during your holiday.

Beautiful ride and what a view from the top, simply breathtaking. Don't hesitate, go!!!! No need to be fit or to wear walking gear. It could not be easier. Just don't forget your camera!!
A cool ride to see the best views of the island and surrounding areas. You could walk down and get a one way ticket, we didn't because of lack of time. So we bought a return for a few euros more, they... read more »
We took the ferry across from Sorrento which cost us 34 euro each - it's the only way to get there and 30 minute journey. When in the harbour we turned right up the hill and found the steep path / ste... read more »
It is one of the dream destinations. Taking a cable car from the base, one can enjoy the complete view of the city, nature and the sea. From the top of the mountain, one finds heavenly sceneries. I strongly recommend to experience the cable car to know Capri better
We almost skipped this one because of the 11€ price tag for a return ticket. Glad we didn't! The view from the top alone is worth visiting Capri. Absolutely breathtaking and beautiful. Tip: when you go down the stairs to the washrooms walk around the corner to the outside and you will find a Hollywood swing overlooking the whole bay of Naples. Doesn't get better. Also, make sure to buy a return ticket, the way down is so much better than the way up, well worth the extra three euros!
The chairlift up to the top from Anacapri is an experience in itself and gives you a breathtaking view over the island. The signs you pass on the suspension towers remind you not to swing the chairs, I for one can't think of any reason why I'd want to do that!! Once at the top its worth taking some time to have a good walk around and savour the views available of that half of the island and maybe have a well deserved beer. You can then choose to walk back down to Anacapri, (which we always do) but I would recommend that you only do this if you have reasonable footwear as the first half of the route is a well trodden and slight rough dirt track.
By far one of the most beautiful locations in the world, so much can be seen from this humble mountaintop. From the deep blues of the Mediterranean to the peninsula of Sorrento, it's all absolutely astounding.
Breathtakingly amazing. And an amazing chair ride to the highest point can't be missed. It's what completes the place
