Geologic Formation
Explore the illuminated blue waters in the cavern of Blue Grotto. This cave on the island of Capri stretches 60 m (196 ft) into the cliffside. The intense blue coloring comes from the light conditions specific to the narrow cavern. Take a small rowboat through the entrance of the cave to witness the glowing water. Well-known for its acoustics, you can listen to the boat workers singing their favorite opera pieces, adding to the cave's atmosphere. • We were there early April 2017. From the port take the bus (€1.8) to Anacapri. Then a nice road down to the cave (about 2km) past to magnificent gardens, initially small streets, then a walk. You must have seen just at the Grotto in a rowing boat and with the swell in the really interesting blue-glowing darkness. Admission and rower together is € 14.-P.p.. OK. But then we only really go: Along the coast there are some Castella from the 18th century, with associated path. It leads to the lighthouse at Faro, about to go, 3 h including time to enjoy the beautiful views and the loneliness. Leads together about 200 meters, some basic level of fitness and light hiking boots on the coastline along, times up and down, required. From the lighthouse you could bus arouse to Anacapri. The path is then properly spectacular further on the Monte Solaro. again 500 altitude, partly right steep, but magnificent out views on a cliff further upwards, about 2 1 / 2 h. Light hiking boots, good condition and some slip resistance necessary. Once at the top can you down with a chairlift, which closes at 4:30 but, Alternatively, ca 45 min easy hiking trails along a cableway to Anacapri Children only if they're already experienced mountain hikers usually in the Sun, not for sandal tourists, is not suitable in midsummer, way! The road has quite a few crash sites! With the online maps Rother walking guide easy to find consistently good connection.

  • It's a bit of a tourist rip-off, but it is still something that HAS to be done, and still well worth the 3 payments you'll make. First is the $20 boat ride to the grotto, followed by the $20 ticket to...  more »
