Blue Grotto, Anacapri

3.2
#3 of 8 in Nature in Island of Capri
Explore the illuminated blue waters in the cavern of Blue Grotto. This cave on the island of Capri stretches 60 m (196 ft) into the cliffside. The intense blue coloring comes from the light conditions specific to the narrow cavern. Take a small rowboat through the entrance of the cave to witness the glowing water. Well-known for its acoustics, you can listen to the boat workers singing their favorite opera pieces, adding to the cave's atmosphere. • I go to Capri most summers, if you are new to the island, be VERY careful of who you book a boat trip with... especially the tourist boats that go to the blue grotto. They are HECTIC! Totally overcrow...  more »
  • Taking a hotel breakfast, took two ships from Naples, came ago the cave. That might be blocked because a hole into the cave, and the sea is rough, is not, this day was lucky enough, I could get 3 days of hospitalization. Waiting for 1 hour in a cave before, but finally got really is blue. There were many constraints and failure to enter, I was feeling the best.

  • This is a very popular tourist attraction and the lines can be long. Go early and try to beat the lines. Even if you have to wait , the site is worth the wait. The water colors are just spectacular an...  more »

  • Everyone claimed this was a “must see”. Utter BS. €14 per person, followed by an disgruntled boatman when I refused to leave him a tip for what was a 10 minute experience of which 7 minutes consisted of sitting in a tiny, cramped rowing boat, waiting to go into the grotto. Granted, once inside it is rather nice. But I would suggest people pool their money together to send one person down there with a reasonably decent camera to show the rest of the group. This review will save you money so, you’re welcome. This experience really opened my eyes to the organised tourist-mobbing by the locals. Be seeing you.
  • Successfully get into the cave. You can buy the ticket right at the pier. There are two type of ticket: 1) just bring you to the blue cave and takes you 1.5hour. 2) bring you around the island and takes you 2hour. Better choose the 1st one if you want to get into the cave. Another fee need to pay before you change a small boat to take you in. Don't forget to tip the man who sail you in. Around 3pm for the last boat, don't miss it.
  • Capri is a beautiful Island and the Blue Grotto is certainly a natural wonder, but the overpriced tourism manna that revolves around it is just too much. 14€/pers (4€ for the cave itself and 10€ for the boatmen, who by the way also expect an extra tip at the end - but you don't have to) is a bit steep for the
  • Great place worth the cost. Special Tip: it is a beautiful walk down, about an hour. You still pay the €14 for the last row boat bit but the walk is better than the big boat to the little boat that also costs.
  • Pretty cool, definitely go by boat to have less of a wait. The little row boats that take you in are neat. The rower we had heckled us for a tip and basically demanded more when we gave him 4 Euros which is ridiculous. They sing in the Grotto which adds to the experience.
