  • Must see for anyone visiting Alghero. The crevices of the historical centre makes it unique and charming!

  • The Cathedral Santa Maria Immaculata is the main church in Alghero, and is found in the historic centre of the city. You can not miss him, because the octagonal Bell Tower is the highest point of the town, and is regarded as the symbol of the city. It is the principal Church of the diocese, and all in 1503 was the Church Bishop's seat. The Duomo is dedicated to Mary, officially to the ' Holy Mary Immaculate ', the mother of Jesus. Construction began in 1530 and lasted until 1593. Only in 1730 the Church was consecrated. The five chapels, the koromgang and the octagonal base of the Bell Tower point to the original Catalan-Gothic style, but there is quite a few ' doctored ' to the Church in past centuries! The ship and the aisles in a late renaissance style (to) built, and in the 19th century, a neo-classical façade against the Church was built. For me personally an ugly, completely from the show falling addition, that on that little square and in those small streets the gaudy. It is even difficult to take pictures of the whole facade of so close. ... You can also say that this building dús history breathes, in that multitude of styles. The Interior, on the other hand, is very honest. Easy. divided into three naves with five side chapels, all decorated with Baroque works of art, wooden and marble altars. Some are made of the precious Carrara marble.

  • The exterior of the Cathedral is characterized mainly by the high Bell Tower, one of the symbols of Alghero, which stands out in the urban landscape of the town. The Tower, at the back of the Church, is in late Gothic style, with octagonal barrel, several arched on the sides, arched openings and, after a balustrade along which strings and pinnacles alternate, is crowned with a slender pyramidal Spire municipality in Catalonia polychrome majolica. The Interior of the temple is a Latin cross divided into three naves, separated by pillars and columns of classic taste. He late Renaissance style as evidenced by the slightly lowered barrel vault set to a cornice supported by large fireplaces Mantels and marked by arches that divide the space below in sections. The slightest scrap of orthogonal arms gives the longitudinal plant a centrality of Renaissance mold, highlighted by intensified development in height. In the aisles are opened six chapels, three on each side, all adorned with interesting works of art.

  • Beautiful cathedral in the middle of town. Worth a visit and a read up on the local history.
  • Beautiful Cathedral, but deserves a special Bell Tower. The entrance door for a fee on the narrow staircase. The steps are so small and very narrow access spaces. But the effort is well rewarded when you get to the top. Breathtaking view over the city and the Bay. Interesting and enjoyable even the Guide's explanations that tells the story of the building and of the bells in it. To see
