  • As so often in Sicily, this lovely small church encapsulates layers and later and centuries and centuries of history. The site was first a Greek temple, and has been reused in various forms over time,...  more »
  • This church dates back to the 1100's and has a rather magical quality to it. It is small, wonderfully ancient in feel, and tranquil. Very special place.  more »
  • A lovely small chiesa built over Greek 'temple' ruins. Enter through a charming courtyard and then enter the church itself. It is a simple sanctuary and beautifully so; and as noted by all has a glass...  more »

  • A place full of history and humanity. I chose this church to celebrate my wedding because it is warm, rich in history and in a context that speaks of life lived. The Unbearable Lightness of old town that I have defended and documented. I love this site because it gives me spiritual peace and I found something I had lost some time ago. 🙏 PS, the guides are very prepared and patients

  • A beautiful medieval church, which was built on the remains of an ancient Greek temple and so on the one hand includes remnants of medieval frescoes and paintings on the ceiling beams, but also insight into the Greek Foundation allows. Even if Santa Maria Dei Greci is a little off of the shot, it is absolutely worth a visit.

  • The Greek-Byzantine rite old cathedral was built in 1200 on the remains of a former Doric Temple, by some scholars identified as the Temple of Athena Lindia and Zeus Atabyrios (mentioned by Polybius).

  • The Church is beautiful and talented volunteer who for free and passionately tells the history of the place while the employees are to the phone and chat loudly. Unlike the Church, the area where it is located as well as the streets we walk to get there from the main street, are in complete disrepair. There's dirt everywhere smell of pee, weeds, crumbling houses.
