  • The sanctuary of Saint Anthony, elevated later to Pontifical basilica, was built at the beginning of the 17th century along with the adjoining convent of Friars Minor reformed, of the Franciscan order. At the beginning it was dedicated to the Immaculate Conception, then to Saint Francis and Saint Anthony of Padua. The building in Baroque style with the interior spaces clad in marble. The structure, which consists of three naves with an apse and chapels that were performed on the left side, is flanked by a fairly recent Bell Tower having been built in 1915. Internally the basilica houses a crucifix by brother Umile of Petralia, from virtue miraculous things. Remarkable from an artistic point of view the wooden statue representing Saint Anthony of Padua. Inside the sacristy there is a painting of the apparition of the infant Jesus to St. Anthony. Interesting frescoes that decorate the basilica by Vincenzo Severino. Of some interest is historical and cultural, is the library that fits inside the seraphic College of the adjacent convent.
