St. Joseph Church, Nazareth

4.2
#4 of 11 in Historic Sites in Nazareth
Religious Site Tourist Spot
Thought by many to occupy the site of the carpentry workshop of the husband to Virgin Mary, St. Joseph Church represents a modest example of Romanesque Revival style architecture. Built in 1914, the church covers an underground network of caves and early Crusader church remains. Enter the simple public threshold of the Franciscan Roman Catholic church, and descend the short staircase to the crypt for a glimpse at a small section of the underground system of rock-cut chapel and caves. Notice the recurrence of the figure of Joseph across the church's numerous stained glass windows. Put St. Joseph Church at the forefront of your travel plans using our Nazareth itinerary planner.

  • This is the closest you get to a stereotypical church on the basilica campus. The church itself is quite nice and worth a visit - but make sure to come here during lunchtime or early in the morning to...  more »

  • Built above of the cave Jesus grew up in. I was blessed enough to walk up and down the same steps as our Savior.
  • This is on the same premises as Basilica of the Annunciation. The underground of the church is interesting.
  • St Joseph's workshop with antique hexaemeron (6 days) baptistery. Hic erat subditus illis.
