St. Joseph Church, Nazareth

Categories: Sacred & Religious Sites, Tourist Spots
Inspirock Rating:
4.2/5 based on 130+ reviews on the web
Thought by many to occupy the site of the carpentry workshop of the husband to Virgin Mary, St. Joseph Church represents a modest example of Romanesque Revival style architecture. Built in 1914, the church covers an underground network of caves and early Crusader church remains. Enter the simple public threshold of the Franciscan Roman Catholic church, and descend the short staircase to the crypt for a glimpse at a small section of the underground system of rock-cut chapel and caves. Notice the recurrence of the figure of Joseph across the church's numerous stained glass windows. Put St. Joseph Church at the forefront of your travel plans using our Nazareth itinerary planner.

  • A very simple Church that is located in a privileged area, it is, of course, built on top of Joseph's "joinery", requires no longer visit but still visit the Basilica next to which is definitely worth a visit, so okay.

  • On the north side of the Big Basilica is another Franciscan church. In the lower part (crypt) you can see remains of 1st and 2nc century BC, mosaics, a water pit and caves. One of them, according to tradition, was used by Joseph as his workshop.
  • Great shots
  • All within the Franciscan complex has been studied in detail. Nice and important from the spiritual point of view.
