#6 of 18 in Things to do in Mitspe Ramon
Trek through Avdat National Park, a deep canyon near the World Heritage Site of Avdat, known for its picturesque natural springs. The canyon and its trails veer through a dry river valley in the arid Negev desert, and as evidence shows, were once inhabited by ancient Nabateans. Christian monks also used to live in the area, finding their shelter in caves carved into the stone. Several hiking trails climbing large numbers of steps will take you to scenic viewpoints of the springs, which flow in a series of waterfalls to pools of saltwater below, fringed by poplars and saltbush plants. A piece of history in the middle of the desert. This national park will give you a look how it was for the commercial travellers.

Fascinating and impressive canyon! Definitely worth a visit! (Also in combination with the ruins of Avedat)

I was advised to park at the 'dwellings' and to make a circle up to the main site and then down via the main road. Made perfect sense: you get to see everything, and you walk up first and then down. The dwellings are definitely interesting, as are the burial caves just off the main road. Great site, overall.

Beautiful national park. Pay attention: there are two different entrances, begin at the lower one, and finish at the upper.
