Avdat National Park, Mitspe Ramon

(200+ reviews on the web)
Canyon
Trek through Avdat National Park, a deep canyon near the World Heritage Site of Avdat, known for its picturesque natural springs. The canyon and its trails veer through a dry river valley in the arid Negev desert, and as evidence shows, were once inhabited by ancient Nabateans. Christian monks also used to live in the area, finding their shelter in caves carved into the stone. Several hiking trails climbing large numbers of steps will take you to scenic viewpoints of the springs, which flow in a series of waterfalls to pools of saltwater below, fringed by poplars and saltbush plants. Make Avdat National Park a part of your Mitspe Ramon vacation plans using our Mitspe Ramon trip itinerary planner.

  • In this place better to go by car, apart from the trips. Further excavations, on the observation deck offers a magnificent view of the Negev desert, Bedouin villages. It is interesting to visit.

  • Nature at its best near Sde Boker in Israel's south. About two hours from Jerusalem/Tel Aviv if traffic is reasonable, an impressive desert canyon with springs and streams and waterfalls. Entrance for...  more »

  • Small but interesting exhibition explaining the goods that were passed through this way. Very interesting 9 minutes film, available in different languages among them are English, Hebrew, French and Russian (there are more, but I couldn't see the list). The ruins are in good shape, the caves are great for the kids (mine brought a sword with him, just in case), flashlight can help but not needed. On site there are some iron sculptures depicting life scenes from the nabatian times.
  • Fantastic area to hike, but beware: The Avdat National Park closes one hour before sunset, be sure to start your tour at least around 10 O'clock if you want to be let in.
  • Really beautiful place for hike
  • Very educational. Nice exhibits. UNESCO world heritage site.
  • Incredible ruins carrying history of Nabateans and romans. Try to be there in non-summer days. Carry lots of water. Easy to get on top by foot. UNESCO Heritage site.
