  • The Zion gate is one of the gates of Jerusalem's old city. The traffic - homicidal! Pedestrians in both directions run it and at the same time cars go through - in both directions! You have to really watch! We have used the gate to visit the grave of Oskar Schindler.

  • What is there to say about the Old City of Jerusalem that have not been said yet? Thousands of years of history, multiple cultures, amazing sites, fantastic shopping experiences, amazing restaurants, and lots of tourists roaming through its narrow cobblestone streets. Zion Gate is only one of the egress points into this amazing city and the capital of Israel and the Jewish People.
  • Possibly the most beautiful gate to the old city of Jerusalem. Great view from here. Not far from the Jewish quarter and the wailing wall. Can access by car. There's a nearby parking lot but tends to be busy.
  • Modern high-end shopping mixes with ancient stalls for a rich, stimulating experience. Prepare to walk.
  • Traffic signs ruin the view a bit. But historic and nice nonetheless.
  • Beautiful gate to enter the old City. Used to be the border between Jordan and Israel.

Where to stay in Jerusalem

Although it lacks a big selection of mid-range options, Jerusalem provides plenty of choices in the top-end hotel category. The Old City contains the bulk of Jerusalem's small hotels, inexpensive hostels, and religious hospices, all of which appeal to budget-conscious travelers. West Jerusalem offers additional options in the form of guesthouses and bigger hotels, some of which boast five-star ratings. If you just need a bed, consider a youth hostel, where you can choose between private and common rooms with Wi-Fi included.
