Tower of David Museum, Jerusalem

4.5
#4 of 166 in Museums in Israel
Located within an ancient citadel, Tower of David Museum displays 4,000 years of Jerusalem's history. The museum inhabits several rooms in the ancient fortification dating back to the Hasmonean dynasty that were rebuilt and expanded over millennia. Move through the rooms successively, as they exhibit Jerusalem as it changed chronologically through different time periods and empires' reigns. Climb the tower's ramparts for views over the citadel and the Old City. At night you can attend the sound and light show that illuminates the walls in the courtyard outside. Easy access as located at the entrance to the Jaffa Gate. The cost of 40shekel is correct. Add 15 others for the audio guide. We can do without this last visit but the explanations bring more to the visit. Even if they are often far too long (more than 5 min per place) count 2 h for good all visit. Great views of Jerusalem and the old city including one in 360 degrees.

Without being spectacular, as there are to my taste too much new evidence... is well above all by the representations in 3D that has.

Very nice bridge between the ancient and the modern at the entrance to the old city. Nice place to walk and tour. If you're new to Israel a guided tour would be best.

Really cool museum with a really nice garden inside. Very relaxing. And the historic stone towers are amazing.

Maybe I've travelled too much to be easily impressed. I was chilly I didn't dress warmly enough and I didn't know what I was looking at I mean in terms of the symbolism.. They we're giving out some sort of pamphlet on the way in but it's too dark to look at it so I didn't really understand what it was I was supposed to be viewing. the special effects are pretty nice especially if you have nothing else to do that night

Where to stay in Jerusalem

Although it lacks a big selection of mid-range options, Jerusalem provides plenty of choices in the top-end hotel category. The Old City contains the bulk of Jerusalem's small hotels, inexpensive hostels, and religious hospices, all of which appeal to budget-conscious travelers. West Jerusalem offers additional options in the form of guesthouses and bigger hotels, some of which boast five-star ratings. If you just need a bed, consider a youth hostel, where you can choose between private and common rooms with Wi-Fi included.
