Considered one of Jerusalem's major landmarks, Mount of Olives Jewish Cemetery dates back more than 3,000 years. With the first burial on these grounds taking place in the First Temple Period, the site has grown to house approximately 70,000 tombs. Notable graves contain the remains of famed rabbis, artists, and political leaders. Many of the oldest tombs are located at the bottom of the mountain, in Kidron Valley.   • When I found the Garden of Gethsemane closed after nightfall, I walked through the Mount of Olives Cemetery in the dark one of the places where Christ was reportedly sighted after the crucifixion. The...  more »
  • By climbing the Mount of olives, along this cemetery and one can also enter to contemplate these graves aligned geometrically and without any decorum, very different from the Catholic cemeteries

  • So many amazing souls are laid to rest in this historical cemetery. Go with a guide if you can. Wear walking shoes and be prepared for a stirring experience. I recommend it.
