Gives a good feel of how jews view the coming of Messiah. Jew pay a lot to be buried here so they are first to the temple. The best par of being here is the view of the city however.  more »

The cemetery occupies a huge space directly under the walls of the old city and creeping on the slopes of the Mount of olives. A huge number of tombstones. Burials go so far. Have seen such a funeral. No place, perhaps buried in the same grave. The cemetery is surrounded on all sides by Arab quarters. They say there are unpleasant excesses! There is a tour of the cemetery on places of famous graves. We didn't want to go. Better living!

The stones on the tombs avoid the ritual impurity of mixing living flowers with dead bodies; could come from a pun between ben and even, son (of God) and stone.

A remarkable site relating to the history of Judaism and history of Jerusalem. Burial site of various figures, including one Israeli prime-ministery (Menachem Begin), and many Rabbis..

Where to stay in Jerusalem

Although it lacks a big selection of mid-range options, Jerusalem provides plenty of choices in the top-end hotel category. The Old City contains the bulk of Jerusalem's small hotels, inexpensive hostels, and religious hospices, all of which appeal to budget-conscious travelers. West Jerusalem offers additional options in the form of guesthouses and bigger hotels, some of which boast five-star ratings. If you just need a bed, consider a youth hostel, where you can choose between private and common rooms with Wi-Fi included.
