Mount Herzl National Cemetery, Jerusalem

4.6
Pay your respects to prime ministers, presidents, and other notable Jews buried at Mount Herzl National Cemetery, a resting place of many leaders of Zionism and the state of Israel. At 834 m (2,736 ft) above sea level, the mount has served as Israel's national cemetery since 1951. It houses the remains of one of the fathers of modern political Zionism, Theodor Herzl, transferred here from Austria in 1949. Learn about Zionism at the Herzl Center, showing an engaging multimedia presentation about the vision of the Jewish State. You can also visit the Victims of Acts of Terror Memorial, commemorating Jewish lives lost in acts of terrorism since 1851. Mount Herzl National Cemetery is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our world travel planner, Jerusalem Edition.

  • beautiful place and also to see herzl and see fallen soliders
  • Mount Herzl is one of the loveliest parks in Jerusalem , well builded, with tall pine-trees and many benches with old people, that are sitting there to catch some sun at winter and some shadow in summer. There are a necropolis for our Israeli and Jewish political elite here: from Herzel to Shimon Peres, included Itzhak Rabin, Itzchak Shamir, Moshe Sharett and many others. You can see here Jabotinski's tomb too. Sometimes schoolbuses are carrying pupils for Mount Herzel tours. They are coming to Herzel museum, standing near the park entrance, running between the trees and making cheerful noises. The park is highly recommended for senior citizens.
  • A burial place for all the countries leaders, very interesting.
  • Deeply moving, extremely well done.
  • Amazing and emotional

Where to stay in Jerusalem

Although it lacks a big selection of mid-range options, Jerusalem provides plenty of choices in the top-end hotel category. The Old City contains the bulk of Jerusalem's small hotels, inexpensive hostels, and religious hospices, all of which appeal to budget-conscious travelers. West Jerusalem offers additional options in the form of guesthouses and bigger hotels, some of which boast five-star ratings. If you just need a bed, consider a youth hostel, where you can choose between private and common rooms with Wi-Fi included.
