Jewish Quarter, Jerusalem

(4.6/5 based on 1,200+ reviews on the web)
Walking through Jewish Quarter, the part of the Old City controlled by Jews, enables visitors to weave through ancient history and consider modern Jewish life. The neighborhood, built over centuries entirely out of beige Jerusalem stone, is maze-like. It contains four historic and monumental synagogues among many smaller houses of prayer and seminaries, colonnaded Roman ruins unearthed in the center of the quarter, and the entrances to the Western Wall and the ancient Jewish archaeological sites nearby. Try to wear shoes with a lot of traction: the streets are also made of Jerusalem stone, slippery from centuries of footsteps. By using our Jerusalem trip itinerary maker, you can arrange your visit to Jewish Quarter and other attractions in Jerusalem.

  • The Jewish Quarter is the most updated (i believe by necessity). While the history is there, there are also spacious plazas and modern shops. Got some great jewlery, mezuzot, and other chachkas.  more »
  • Everything has already been written many times. I'll add that the pathways are narrow and crowded but steeped in history and religious meaning At 9pm, it was packed with visitors and tourists.  more »
  • Eventhough all the shops and restaurants were closed the area was very clean, beautiful and people were very nive to let me in to the Sinagoge. They have great views of the Western Wall and the Mount ...  more »
