Jewish Quarter, Jerusalem
(4.5/5 based on 1,100+ reviews on the web)
Walking through Jewish Quarter, the part of the Old City controlled by Jews, enables visitors to weave through ancient history and consider modern Jewish life. The neighborhood, built over centuries entirely out of beige Jerusalem stone, is maze-like. It contains four historic and monumental synagogues among many smaller houses of prayer and seminaries, colonnaded Roman ruins unearthed in the center of the quarter, and the entrances to the Western Wall and the ancient Jewish archaeological sites nearby. Try to wear shoes with a lot of traction: the streets are also made of Jerusalem stone, slippery from centuries of footsteps. By using our Jerusalem trip itinerary maker, you can arrange your visit to Jewish Quarter and other attractions in Jerusalem.

  • Lots of history. Great food. And the shopping! There are also many historical museums and monuments. The devastation from the 1948 War of Independence and the 1967 liberation can be seen.
  • It is hard to believe that in 1967, when Jerusalem was reunited, Israel found that there entire quarter had been destroyed by the Jordanians. Today it is a vibrant area, combining modern with the anci...  more »
