Church of Saint Peter in Gallicantu, Jerusalem

(4.6/5 based on 190+ reviews on the web)
Church of Saint Peter in Gallicantu owes its significance to its location on the spot where the Romans imprisoned Jesus before his crucifixion. The church, its present structure built in 1931, commemorates the repentance of St. Peter after he denounced Jesus three times. A golden rooster sits on the sanctuary roof, and numerous artworks and inscriptions depict scenes from the New Testament. Overlooking the walled city of Jerusalem from the slopes of Mount Zion, the church site provides panoramic views, while an old staircase that Jesus might have used leads down to the Kidron valley on the north side. • Here is where Peter Denies that he knows Jesus and the cock crows. Here is a beautiful church and a must see for Christians.
  • Descending of the Mount Zion a time cross the road will arrive to the Church of them parents Assumptionists. Churches binzantina and crusade, recalled the "canto del gallo" and the tears of St. Peter. Around the church there are ruins of the Jerusalem of the time of Jesus, there is a stepped street from Roman times that descends from uptown to the lower town. It is believed that could be used by Jesus the night of Holy Thursday, road of Gethsemane. The current church has joined the previous, commemorating the process of Jesus to the high priest Caiaphas, as it describes the central mosaic. Everyone is aware that this church was built on the ruins of the home of Caiaphas, in the entry door you can see the relief on the figure of a rooster. If went down to the basements will appreciate even them dungeons "pit", that were used for the arrest of Jesus. Don't you miss this church so emotional for all us.
