Architectural Building Religious Site
Church of Saint Peter in Gallicantu owes its significance to its location on the spot where the Romans imprisoned Jesus before his crucifixion. The church, its present structure built in 1931, commemorates the repentance of St. Peter after he denounced Jesus three times. A golden rooster sits on the sanctuary roof, and numerous artworks and inscriptions depict scenes from the New Testament. Overlooking the walled city of Jerusalem from the slopes of Mount Zion, the church site provides panoramic views, while an old staircase that Jesus might have used leads down to the Kidron valley on the north side. • A beautiful church built in 3 level also contains the sacred pit . Stairway from the time of Jesus is also seen here.
  • Spectacular paintings and much history to be told if you can take it in with just one visit.
  • Pretty church with a great view of the temple mount. The traditional site of the palace of the high priest Caiaphas where Jesus was held in chains. Gallicantu means cock's crow in reminder of Peter's threefold denial of knowing Christ before the cock crowed twice.
  • Awesome just being in the city of Jesus the Christ.
  • This is in commemoration of Peter's triple rejection of Jesus "... before the cock crows twice." (Mark 14:30) Don't miss the jail cell underneath the Church believed to be where Jesus was held over night.
