Apollonia National Park, Herzlia
(4.4/5 based on 100+ reviews on the web)
Surrounding the remains of a 13th-century Crusader fortress, Apollonia National Park offers hiking and picnic opportunities, as well as panoramic views of an ancient Roman villa and the Mediterranean coast. The clifftop ruins, encircled by a wide dry moat, include a collection of genuine ballistae projectiles. The first settlers on the site were Phoenicians in the 6th century BCE, but the earliest remains date back to the Roman period. Take one of the two hiking routes to reach the top: the one for experienced hikers follows the ridge of the cliff, while the other is wheelchair- and stroller-accessible. Add Apollonia National Park and other attractions to your Herzlia trip itinerary using our Herzlia travel itinerary maker.

  • From the fortress little remains (as almost all the other castles in Israel). The territory is small enough, good views. Unfortunately, almost all of the ropes causing the path to the walls. Perhaps this and promotes safety walls and security of tourists, but there are very few places where you can make good shots against a fortress. Once, of course, is worth a visit, but the second time go, most likely, will not want to.
