Wadi Nisnas, Haifa

3.6
#11 of 17 in Neighborhoods in Israel
Haifa's Arab neighborhood, Wadi Nisnas remains known for its busy marketplace, stone buildings, and charming alleyways. When walking down this district's historical streets and through its market, you may have the feeling that you've left the city and entered an ancient village. Home to 8,000 residents, the area burst onto the world stage when author Sami Michael used it as a setting for his 1987 novel "Trumpet in the Wadi." • Clearly a highlight in Haifa. Original, mature living and business district of Muslim style. Reminds a little of the Arab part of Istanbul. Fruit and vegetable traders and anything which is not quite kosher... Enge, schmäle streets with smaller Central pedestrian zone. Picturesque and dirty. Sunday doesn't make sense: completely closed.

  • The oshcona is located in downtown Haifa, inhabited by a mixed population, Arab Muslims and Christians, the aiskiham Board and for vegetable and fruit market located in one of the alleys of the neighborhood. The neighborhood is very lively during the weekend, due to the many Jews who come to take advantage of recreational days and buy it. Various trade schools can be found, all good, including, itzim, PITA bakery, grocery stores, loaded with delicious salads, fish shop, take the toy stores, jewelry stores, electrical appliances and throughout Israel

Where to stay in Haifa

Look in the German Colony district close to the port to find the main bulk of the accommodations in Haifa. With its proximity to many of the urban attractions, this area has become a modern tourism hot spot. Here, you'll discover a rich mix of luxury hotels and boutiques set in well-maintained old blocks, as well as particularly budget-friendly options such as guesthouses. Alternatively, the coastline provides plenty of upmarket hotels in the more developed neighborhoods, and a scattering of guesthouses and resorts close to the sandy beaches.
