Tel Dan, Galilee

(4.8/5 based on 120+ reviews on the web)
A lush nature reserve on the Israeli border with Syria and Lebanon, Tel Dan offers a mixture of hiking trails and archeological sites. Trek through the green vegetation along a river past rushing cold-water springs, and visit pagan altars where the ancient Tribe of Dan offered animal sacrifices to their gods (look behind the biggest for the bunkers used by Israelis in the Six-Day War). The site also features an Arabic stone grain mill and two ancient city gates--one of them mentioned in a biblical story about Abraham rescuing Lot. Archeological findings from the ancient city of Dan include a broken 9th-century stone with an inscription referring to King David. • This is one of the superb attractions in the Galilee. 2 treks of 45 and 90 min walks under trees and lush vegetation, along or over gushing streams of ice cold water. A number of surprises on the path...  more »

  • This is a must in the North of Israel. Not only for the tranquillity of walking by a reserve but also by history which can be seen in this place, with the biblical city of Dan. In addition, no it has long been, although it can be used to relax and not do everything so hurry. We did it in half a day.

  • One of the nicest nature spots in the north. Has a small pond for young kids to get in. Trees, water, ruins and more. Mostly recommended at the end of winter/beginning of spring
  • The largest spring in the middle east. It is amazingly beautiful. If you're in the area you should definitely stop by.
  • Really good nature reserve, a good balance between ease of walking and comfortable trails and the combination with surrounding nature, lot of the trails are neutrally shaded and water streaming everywhere. Facilities are well maintained and clean with large parking. The wheelchair / Stroller accessable part is very short
  • Very nice place for a family hike with small children.
  • It was amazing. We saw the old altars during Jeroboam's time and we saw the ancient gates. At the end of the trail, we saw Abraham'a gates at ancient Dan.
