Tel Dan, Galilee

4.7
A lush nature reserve on the Israeli border with Syria and Lebanon, Tel Dan offers a mixture of hiking trails and archeological sites. Trek through the green vegetation along a river past rushing cold-water springs, and visit pagan altars where the ancient Tribe of Dan offered animal sacrifices to their gods (look behind the biggest for the bunkers used by Israelis in the Six-Day War). The site also features an Arabic stone grain mill and two ancient city gates--one of them mentioned in a biblical story about Abraham rescuing Lot. Archeological findings from the ancient city of Dan include a broken 9th-century stone with an inscription referring to King David. • אחלה טיול עם ילדים קטנים, לא מסלול קשה והמון מים בעונה. Dan Springs and Biblical City The Dan River is the largest and most important source of the Jordan River. The abundance of water originating from the Hermon snow is the source of the development of one of the largest and oldest cities in Israel, the city of Dan - an important landmark on the northern border of the Land of Israel.
  • A lot of places to get in the water, even if there's many people you can find a place without anyone if you look hard enough. The water are clean and pretty cold so it's very nice in the summer time
  • Great for kids adults seniors and handicaps. Anyone can enjoy this beautiful site. We visit this site annually and never got disappointed.
  • Return to this beautiful spot as often as possible. The roaring River, heavy tree canopy and easy access, even for wheelchairs, bring this part of Paradise to all.
  • Absolutely beautiful park. The combination of water, closely packed forest and historical sites makes this park unique and sure worth a visit. This national park houses the source of the Jordan river. There is a lovely wadi you can walk through. The forest is absolutely beautiful and looks like a mangrove at times. The historic remains of the Dan city are also nice to visit. You can clearly see the outline of the old city wall. Both the Jewish and Cananite walls.
