Hula Nature Reserve, Galilee

4.7
#2 of 9 in Wildlife in Northern District
Spreading over the wetlands, Hula Nature Reserve supports water buffaloes, nutrias, otters, and swamp turtles, plus numerous indigenous plants and 200 species of migrating birds. The project of creating Israel's first nature reserve started in the 1950s, when swamps around the lake were drained. Follow the main swamp trail, dotted by bird-watching posts, and look out for kingfishers, pelicans, storks, cormorants, cranes, and waterfowl. The visitors' center features dioramas and 3D films on wildlife and bird migration. Remember to take binoculars with you. This place is on the migration route for birds to and from Europe and Africa. During the migration season there are thousands of birds on the reserve.  more »

The Hula Nature Reserve was not nearly as busy as Tel Dan or Banias Reserves. Not sure why as we found it quite special. There is a nice loop trail round the reserve – we saw: water buffalo, pelican, ...  more »

For once in my life I'd around entered Agmon hahula. It was twenty years ago. This time we went to the patient it five minutes south of Scirpus. We arrived with the car and we presented the cache subscriptions (subscribe to the nature reserves of Israel nature and Parks Authority – it is built equals who visits as many teachers don't give up). In the parking lot wasn't much and we realized that there are not many. Near the Park has picnic tables. Many eucalyptus trees. At the beginning of the track which Centre on the reserve. The film is every hour and takes 30 minutes. Through four rooms and each room is explained. For example there is big on explaining how the lake formed and the African Rift. Another room was on the reserve. Also explain the fauna in the reserve. Very interesting and fun. We first did and preferences later went to a movie and AC. We had fun like that. But each what suits him. Of course, that also depends on what time. The tour itself is well-ordered. There is a lovely view of 360 degrees. It's worth the cost. There is a suspension bridge on the water where you can sit and watch anyway. Really a must. The recommended period is the period of migration. Say it's September and even the end of August. Although we haven't seen during migratory birds and it was very interesting. BTW who are shown the film. Even if it's one person/couple like us. Very private lesson. It is highly recommended.

Where to stay in Capernaum

Capernaum itself offers no accommodations, with the ruins of the village thankfully left undisturbed by modern developments. Visitors usually stay in the large town of Tiberias, itself a fascinating place with Biblical history. Look along the shoreline of Tiberias for some of the more upscale resorts and hotels, with many offering their own tours of the Sea of Galilee and Capernaum. For more budget-friendly options, go farther inland and look along the side streets that run off Highway 77.
