Hula Nature Reserve, Galilee
Categories: Wildlife Areas, Nature & Parks
Spreading over the wetlands, Hula Nature Reserve supports water buffaloes, nutrias, otters, and swamp turtles, plus numerous indigenous plants and 200 species of migrating birds. The project of creating Israel's first nature reserve started in the 1950s, when swamps around the lake were drained. Follow the main swamp trail, dotted by bird-watching posts, and look out for kingfishers, pelicans, storks, cormorants, cranes, and waterfowl. The visitors' center features dioramas and 3D films on wildlife and bird migration. Remember to take binoculars with you. Using our international travel planner, Capernaum attractions like Hula Nature Reserve can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.
