Dead Sea, Dead Sea Region

#1 of 19 in Things to do in Dead Sea Region
Swim, float, and nourish your skin at Dead Sea, a hypersaline lake. At 428 m (1,404 ft) below sea level, it is the earth's lowest point. However, the sea is most notable for the water's saltiness, which makes it good for floating and lends it some restorative dermatological properties. Salt and minerals from the sea are used in cosmetics and bath products all over the world. Camp or lounge on the sandy, open-access, northwest beach surrounded by hotels, or visit the mineral beach where bathers coat their skin in healing black mud. Be careful not to get the water in your eyes or in any open cuts--it will sting. • If you visit in Israel, you must go through the dead sea. First of all, the road that takes you there, with this long descent, and the rest area which materializes the sea level! When we know that there are over 400 m in vertical... The place is arid, but you will still see number of plots of culture of dates. If you have time, from North to South, you can visit the caves of Qumran, the Oasis of En Gedi, or even the fortress of Masada. But you must go up to Ein Bokek. You will find free public beaches, and can let you carry by the density of this gorged salt sea. The sensation is unique (attention if you have small "sores", it stings a little), and at the end of your swim, you can rinse under one or the other many showers available. What is necessary to get rid of all the salt that is will be deposited on your skin.

  • Not to visit the dead sea-a crime against humanity! Three main reasons: 1. Dead Sea dries up with the speed of 1 meter per year (!). The water level in the dead sea at about 430 meters below sea level. The Lake is the lowest piece of land on Earth. Set visit for later and can simply not catch: Dead Sea dries ... 2. Bathing in the dead sea indescribable! This is a must try, No descriptions won't help! The dead sea is one of the most saline bodies of water on Earth. Drowning impossible: the human body pushes on the surface. We rested in October and the water temperature was + 32 degrees! That's incredible!!! 3. while at the dead sea you can make excursions to the nearby fortress of Masada and Qumran ruins. This is for lovers of antiquities is absolutely amazing (read Wikipedia). It is also possible for the whole day to go on a trip in the Jordanian city of Petra (also read Wikipedia). You will not see anywhere else! To visit Jordan visa is not required, sufficient Russian passport service. Had a rest in hotel "Oasis". Impressions the most positive. At the reception.

  • You've never felt water like this before. It's more olive oil than water. The floating is fun and funny. The paper cut on your finger will sting. But it feels awesome, it's a bucket list something you...  more »
