A costumed re-enactor leads you through the display galleries and infuses the experience with stories of battles and daily life. • Lovely museum, especially on a wet and blustery Irish summers day. Beautiful modern building built over medieval cellars. Fantastic to see. You can also get a combined ticket for this museum and the Bishops Palace which saves you money. No coffee shop in the museum but there is one in the Bishops Palace.
  • Loved, loved it!! Great Museum, full of very interesting facts and displays. It ranges from the Vikings in Waterford to the many Kings and Queens who ruled over us. The had amazing Viking pottery and swords on display also amazing scrolls sent from England from Henry the viii, James the i and Charles the ii. They also have on display unbelievably beautiful ceremonial robes the priests and bishops used to wear the detail was very fine and exquisite. If you are in Waterford and you are a little geeky you will enjoy the Medieval Museum, great for kids and is interactive. Go around the museum by yourself or there are tour guides to take you around each section.
  • A great experience for the whole family. Lots to see and do, with the museum set over 3 floors. Loads of interactive exhibitions, too.
  • Fantastic venue. Wonderful to take a walk through the interior. Well worth a visit - surrounding area is lovely too.
  • Fascinating and really accessible, free to look around at your own pace and/or go on the guided tour all for the same ticket price. Staff friendly, courteous and knowledgeable. Learnt loads

Where to stay in Waterford

There aren't an overwhelming number of places to stay in the city center of Waterford, so consider looking into options in the surrounding neighborhoods. There are a few hotels, smaller lodgings, and a hostel in the heart of the city--the Norman quarter. However, as you venture outside the city center you'll find many traditional bed and breakfasts, cottage-style guesthouses, and family-owned accommodations. The city is easy to get around, so if you stay in a more commercial area, you will still be able to experience the magic of its medieval streets and fortifications.
