Trip Planner: Europe / Ireland / Province of Munster / County Kerry / Dingle Peninsula / Ventry / Celtic and Prehistoric Museum
Celtic and Prehistoric Museum offers a different kind of historical experience, with collections dating back thousands of years. Harris Moore founded this private museum about 10 years ago and filled six rooms with fascinating artifacts, including objects from the Jurassic, Stone and Bronze Ages, as well as the Celtic and Viking eras. You have the chance to see the only intact wooly mammoth skull in Ireland, with its tusks still attached, as well as a complete baby dinosaur skeleton, a large nest of dinosaur eggs, and a cave bear skeleton. Celtic and Prehistoric Museum is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our custom trip planner, Ventry Edition.

Celtic and Prehistoric Museum Reviews
We were a group of five adults, driving the 'Slea Head' drive. We noticed a cottage on our left with a sign advertising a museum. We decided to stop for a few minutes. Our few minutes lasted an hour o... more »
We stopped here based on the favorable reviews. There is an interesting collection here, a small amount from Ireland. Have seen much of the same or similar at larger museums. Owner deserves credit for... more »
A small 3 room museum with real dinosaur eggs, mammuth skull and cave bear, but also various ancient celtic goddesses and even an old symbolic double penis. more »
This place is very quaint and has some interesting things in it, but I think that "Museum" does not quite describe it. From my perspective, it is someone's home that is pretty big, and they have an amazing collection of artifacts from all over the world. A few of the displays are missing descriptions/contents. The woman we met when we got there charged us quite a bit of money to wonder around her house and go through her little antique/gift/local art shop. Overall, it's a nice little break from the drive around dingle, but if you are looking for a history of Ireland/Dingle, you will probably not find it here.
Very small but nice. Loved the lady and her dog.
With all due modesty, with only a undergraduate degree in Classical History I can only lightly expound on the authenticity of this breathtaking collection. Some pieces would be a fine addition to a public museum, if they are original, as well as academic study, however, sadly, they will never be seen in their original context. Ethically, I regret we supported such practices, by paying the admission fee. I suggest any who have knowledge of the breadth of the legal, however unethical, practices of auctioning antiquities avoid this place on principle. This is a private collection arrayed as a "museum", not the result of careful excavation, documentation, and academic scholarship.
What a lovely surprise. Small but very interesting collection. Great value for money.
Dutch lady who asks a high entranceprice for a low budget museum.
