  • It is one of those places that gets on your skin and you will never forget. Valentia island is one of the points more to the West of Ireland. It is opposite the Iveragh peninsula, in the southwest of County Kerry. Maurice O'Neill portmagee is linked to the continent by the Memorial Bridge. A ferry also departs from Reenard Point to Knightstown, the main settlement on the island, from April to October. A second smaller village called Chapeltown is located approximately in the middle of the island, 3 km (1.9 miles) from the bridge. The permanent population of the island is 665 (since OSC 2011 Census). It has approximately 11 km (7 miles) long by almost 3 kilometers (2 miles) wide. • Before starting this hike, be mindful of the weather. Rain can sweep in rather quickly. Just as we finished up here and got in our car the entire area was engulfed in clouds. The walk is a bit of a ca...  more »

  • The walk up to Bray Head is absolutely stunning scenery, the track is good, and you'll be stopping for photos all the time so be prepared for the walk to take a little longer. The walk up can be a bit steep for a novice walker but can be easily done by all ages. At the summit the views are spectacular and like many sites in Ireland you can wander and explore at your own leisure and go anywhere you want. That includes right up to the edge of steep dangerous cliffs. So if you have young kids that have no fear keep them close. If you have plans to do the loop walk then make Sure you have the equipment to match. Waterproof shoes, gaiters and time. The track is terrible, destroyed by livestock and it is trekking through bog. But still stunning but I'd recommend going back the same way you came.
  • See the wild side of Velentia Island with a hike around Bray Head. Stunning views from the old look out on top.
  • Please do not think that a boat trip to the skelligs is the only thing to do. Or if you, like us, were affected by the weather, then get yourself down to Beat head for a gorgeous hike and a breath taking view of the the skelligs and the surrounding. And it's free! Well €2 for the car park which is so conveniently situated (we got taking with the owner, John, whom also gave us tips and places of interest. This was the highlight of our trip to Kerry :)
  • Worth to visit. Grate view
  • Wonderfully isolated. Great view
