Jerpoint Park, Thomastown

(4.6/5 based on 150+ reviews on the web)
Get a breath of fresh air at Jerpoint Park, a historical spot filled with wildlife and impressive old trees. Walk among the oaks, chestnuts, limes, and beeches, and keep an eye out for birds. If you are feeling adventurous, take advantage of the park's "tracker packs," which include binoculars, a compass, and a magnifying glass. Watch a sheepdog demonstration and observe how the dog and its owner communicate and work together to herd sheep. This site also makes a perfect fishing spot--ask about the wild salmon and brown trout fishing. • Awesome hospitality. After the tour of the old ruins and collapsing church structure (as well as St. Nicholas' grave), the man and his wife brought us in and fed us Irish tea and scones while the man told stories. Top notch experience!
  • It is not only a beautiful place in a beautiful area but a place ready to be discovered. The lost town of Newtown Jerpoint and St Nicholas church are a real hidden treasure in irish heritage and to get to see St Nicholas tomb who inspired our popular Santa it is a very special experience. The park also has stunning walks along the river Nore, fishing facilities and great tea rooms with the best scones in Ireland. I truly recommend a visit to learn, relax, have fun and to get to know Joe and Maeve the best hosts to meet in Kilkenny :-)
  • A fantastic place to visit, A lost medieval town, The secret of St Nicholas, The Governor of Jamaica's Hunting Lodge and the best scones I've ever eaten. Joe and Maeve are the nicest hosts of any country house I've ever been to and the place has stunning views. The sheepdog 'Cap' got the resident flock of geese to re-enact a scene from "Fly away home". You have to visit here if you come to Ireland ;)
