  • The tour begins with the host welcoming you to his family home, he will seat you and begin to recount the history of the house, farm and his family. Very personal, engaging and fascinating to hear. He will then take you on a tour of a much more modern and bigger facility where he has hundreds of unique historical artifacts. It all ends with some tea and scones. This is a quirky, unique opportunity to experience the history of Mayo first hand. Not to be missed if you're interested in something different that encourages some thinking and introspection. We loved it.
  • Very well done! We liked it a lot. Tom brought his story at a marvelous way. It is still in our head and heart. Many thanks!!
  • Well what a real gem of a museum and the story that Tommy Hennigan tells must stir the heart of any Irish man, woman or child. Absolutely fascinating place which gives you 'Real History' from the perspective of the family and reality of life (both humourous, sad and inspiring). Tom Hennigan takes you through life in a typical Irish Cottage and shows you real examples of the day-today life and challenges as well as the artifacts which the family would need and use. You also get FREE irish scones (cakes), jam, butter and tea served by his wife Catherine in a charming and sizeable cafe area with views out over the lake (for 20 Euros it represents extremely good value). Take the N26 north-west from Swinford and as soon as you go over the bridge over the River there is a sign to Hennigan's just around the corner. Well worth a visit (and allow 2 hours for the tour - there are plenty of places to sit while Tom gives his talk. What a find - you will remember this !
  • After visiting Mayo for many years we finally got around to visiting Hennigan's Heritage centre and it was fantastic! Tom is very welcoming and an excellent guide who really brings the stories to life. It was a fascinating insight into life in Mayo in years gone by and I will definitely be recommending a trip to Tom's to friends and family.
  • Tom Hennigan is a fantastic host who brings the past to life. His knowledge of local history is unbelievable. He will bring you back through time and show you how life was for people living in rural Ireland over the years. Tom your genial host is a natural storyteller, I highly recommend a visit for all ages, You won't be disappointed.
