Brought the family here several times when it was still operational, brilliant being able to be surrounded by so many exotic species of butterfly, kids loved it too. more »
I loved this place and visited it so many times, its a pity that it is now closed. Perhaps someone might take it over an open it again it was a truly unique place. more »
This is a small attraction but a lovely day out for the family especially in good weather. The butterflys are indoor and the staff give expert information. A gentle and informative day out. more »
Had a fantastic time at the Straffan Butterfly Farm today. Our 4-year old daughter loved watching the butterflies, moths, spiders and other crawlies. This is a beautiful spot, with a marvelous little garden and very informative for all, grown-ups and kids. Highly recommended.
Lovely place and a very educational experience. It is true that the butterfly house is small, but this is a family farmhouse/exhibition - by no means natural history museum. The hosts are very friendly and happy to answer all the questions. We saw plenty of live butterflies, caterpillars and butterfly eggs. The butterflies are flying around, a few of them landed on my t-shirt and stayed there for a while. Great variety of butterflies, too. I wasn't crazy about creepy-crawlers but was allowed to hold a gecko for a few minutes and I liked it (normally I would run away). The iguana was very interesting and lively too. I'm not sure about value for money aspect though - some reviewers made comments about entry fee being expensive. I reckon if it's OK to give a fiver for a pint, it's definitely OK to give 8 euro per adult for a ticket to a place like this.
My family only decided to go to torture me : u cud say i have a major fear or phobia of butterflies. They convinced me to go into the like butterfly shed thing. Until i walkd in d door nd a GIANT butterfly comes and flaps around me wit lots of smaller ones. I panicked screamed nd started running in circles knocking things down like pots and then i bumped into people nd i possibly started crying but i think it was the steam. Anyway off the point but all i say is BEWARE GIANT BUTTERFLIES!!
Lovely day out with the kids. The butterflies are beautiful and I've never seen so many varieties.
Great place to go , , lovely experience to see butterfly flaying free
