Cemetery
Explore one of Ireland's largest and oldest cemeteries of megalithic tombs at Carrowmore Megalithic Cemetery. The site is home to over 60 tombs, some up to 5,000 years old; 30 monuments are visible today. Begin your visit at the information center, where an exhibition helps provide the context for this ancient complex. Once you've learned about the area's rich history, set off for the Listoghill cairn, the focal point of the cemetery, surrounded by smaller satellite tombs. Wear sensible shoes, as the area features uneven terrain. The site can be quite challenging for those with mobility problems. • Not particularly exceptional site, allows to stretch the legs if it is a step. A small museum to soak up the scene. The Nice receptionist, also speaks french.

  • We were in February here. The visitor center was closed. We ran over the fence and just across the meadow to the tombs. Nice but unspectacular. Those who are interested in ancient cultures, might be liking it. We have the walk and enjoyed the view, but would not return. And pay admission? Perhaps if you then get much more information.

  • Carrowmore was an awesome stop and a must do. The prices are very reasonable and you can easily spend a couple of hours or more here. The trails are grassy, so our shoes got a little wet, so hiking boots might have been better. Overall this is an amazing place. Go here and be amazed!
  • So much history, so much beauty in one place! Our tour guide was personable and knowledgable. I had no idea at the depth and breadth of this tour. It was fun and amazing to learn about the tombs and ruins right there at the location. An easy walk through the field made it even more than I expected.
  • If you are fascinated by ancient history, as I am, then you would enjoy Carrowmore. If not, you may find it to be a boring set of various piles of rocks. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and spoke at length about the local neolithic monuments (the Sligo area has the highest concentration of neolithic monuments in Europe) what is known and what is conjectured, as well as local history and culture. I very much enjoyed this connection to our ancient ancestors.
  • Cool site, worth checking out. But unless you go on a guided tour, you will just see a few rocks in a big grass field.
  • There are 3 stone circles here and several megalithic tombs it is not to be missed! Like stepping back in time!
