  • Aw Guys ya Gotta visit this workhouse if you're in the area. It's soaked in History and the guide Steve was Soooo Passionate about his work it Showed in his presentation. Great Experience All round. Local politicians Should HANG their HEADS in SHAME for their part in the fact that this place night NOT be standing in a few years . So guys go see it soon, Well worth the visit.
  • We found the guides very informative and super- well qualified. One is a genealogist, another is a folklorist, our guide was an archeologist! An engaging and honest look at the Irish famine of the 19th century and it's aftermath and impacts. Highly recommended.
  • What a warm welcome we got on a cold day! The staff were so knowledgeable and committed to telling the workhouse story. While it is chilly (what was it like in 1850?), this is a good time of year to visit as you have more time and the staff were great for telling us where to go around Lough Derg. Maybe leave more than an hour. Recommended.
  • This is a very educational place to visit and I think it is remarkable how little we know about these institutions given they were so important to our history - good and bad. A sobering visit for the kids, but definitely recommended. We even got a cuppa and a lovely chat after the tour was over. Great to have a place like this open to the public.
  • I visited here during Heritage week. It is an important example of these institutions which were built throughout Ireland in the nineteenth century to cope with massive levels of dire poverty. The buildings are large in scale and some of them have been preserved and are functioning as a fascinating museum. Friendly welcoming staff. Well worth a visit.
