Dromoland Castle, Newmarket-on-Fergus

(4.5/5 based on 280 reviews on the web)
Dine, play a round of golf, or just a stroll through the castle walls of Dromoland Castle. As you drive up to the castle you will pass the championship golf course, considered one of Europe's finest and good for all levels of golfers. The restaurant within the castle is world-renowned, receiving a Michelin star in 1995. All produce is locally grown and the chef caters to a range of interests. The kitchen will even prepare a picnic for you to enjoy outside on the grounds. The castle was built in a Gothic Revival style with one side facing a small lake, which you can also walk around outside. There is much to learn about this castle, as its history extends through several families of Gaelic Royalty, including descendants of the High King of Ireland. A spa, horseback riding, falconry, and archery are among the other many activities here. The castle today serves as a hotel.
