Ros Tapestry Exhibition Center, New Ross

The Ros Tapestry Project is a massive community initative in progress in the County of Wexford. Conceived in 1998, to date the project has been developed by over one hundred and eighty dedicated volunteer stitchers. The collection comprises of fifteen striking embroidered panels measuring 6 x 4 foot each. These works are a cultural and historical accolade to its' creators.

The Ros Tapestries depict events around the Anglo-Norman arrival to the South East of Ireland, specifically the founding of the town of New Ross, Co. Wexford by William Marshall and Isabel de Clare. The content for these tapestry panels was exhaustively researched and designed by Anne Bernstorff.

The Ros Tapestry is open 7 days a week for guided tours. Tours are available all day and usually last 45 minutes. Group bookings are welcome but we would advise booking in advance for larger numbers.

The exhibition provides the ideal introduction to the Norman sights of the South East and is of great interest to all age groups.

  • Found on the main street opposite the statue of Kennedy in an odd looking building but well worth the trip through the door. Ear phones guide you through the Norman history of New Ross as you move from one scene in tapestry to the next, about 15 in all although on our visit one was being shown elsewhere. The tapestry room is downstairs and the working room upstairs. Very interesting and if in New Ross why not call in for a visit.
  • Interesting project. Completion of some of the tapestries took years...well presented with audio commentaries. Well worth a visit.
  • Full of historical information and the tapestries are beautiful
  • Ross Tapestry is a collection of Tapestries depicting the Norman invasion of Wexford and the lives of the Irish at that time. The viewing is accompanied by audio detailing the contents of the Tapestry. The tapestries are all made by local volunteers to a very high standard. It is a fascinating way to spend an hour and very reasonable priced. A must see if you visit New Ross and only a couple of hundred metres from The Dunbrody Experience.
  • A wonderful experience with very knowledgeable staff who are only too happy to impart their knowledge and experience. Highly recommended.
