  • We loved the exhibits leading into the castle. Videos were short, to the point and very informational. The castle was fascinating  more »
  • Last visit was 2010 and there seemed to be a lot more to see. No workers for interactive stations in courtyard. No catapults or cannons.  more »
  • This is quite a complete castle in terms of its defences and there are interactive exhibits explaining the history of both the castle and the city of Limerick. Interesting and big enough to stroll aro...  more »

  • First we walked through the interactive history presentation. You can stop and read along as much as you’d like or continue through and into the castle grounds. There is so much to see and explore inside the castle walls themselves and great views of the medieval quarter and river Shannon. Guest shop at the end is tidy and full of fun gifts. Small coffee shop onsite. 13 Euro per adult admission.
  • A great experience, fantastic museum with a fully accessible castle which has been restored minimally so you can see how things really were during the last siege. Museum and castle contain interactive screens and entertaining video and CGI based movies. Exceptional panoramic views of the city. I would highly recommend this regardless of the weather.
  • I was very underwhelmed with King Johns Castle. I did not feel like I was in a historic castle at all. The interior was much more on par with a modern museum - educational videos etc and was more like a classroom/teaching venue than being inside the walls of a castle. I fully take into account the value of the educational resources and the few activities for children to try, but the installation has really taken away from the authenticity of this magnificent historic building. The building is entered through a glass walk way and exited through a gift and coffee shop - the only area that felt remotely historic was the courtyard and even that lacked atmosphere. I have a passion for historic architecture and the castle is exceedingly impressive from the outside, but my personal preference are buildings with authenticity both inside and out. There are great views over Limerick from the castle towers and the river being right next to the castle also makes a stunning setting. On a positive note, I did enjoy a stroll along the river and the views of the castle exterior. The staff were friendly and helpful and the hot chocolate was delish :D ... but if you are looking for an ancient, atmospheric historic location, I would suggest going with little expectation to avoid disappointment.
  • Wonderful experience with all the history presented in interactive ways, wide open spaces to walk and explore, can go in and up - with breathtaking views. Nice gift shop, friendly staff, make sure to give yourself ample time to visit.
  • Great to see interesting. Staff need to step up a little. Overall excellent but expensive. Brought history to life worth experience of exploring, kids loved it as well.
