History Museum Museum
View the personal collection of the Hunt family at Hunt Museum, housed inside an 18th-century customs house. John and Gertrude Hunt were antique dealers and collectors devoted to artifacts from Ireland's past. Some of the oldest pieces date back to the Stone Age, but the highlights of the collection are the Irish objects from the medieval period as well as the Mary Queen of Scots cross in the jewelry gallery. Each part of the collection is displayed in refurbished rooms, taking advantage of the building's original architecture. The historical museum sits where the east quays begin, and a small marina is nearby; you'll recognize it by its gray stone exterior. Join one of the daily guided tours, or stroll through the rooms on your own. Plan to visit Hunt Museum during your Limerick vacation using our convenient Limerick itinerary builder.

Enjoy top attractions and vibrant nightlife by staying in a hotel or smaller accommodations in Limerick's city center. The central area is not only the most convenient option, but also the safest option for tourists. Here you'll find plenty of hotels, hostels, and other lodgings that work for any budget. If you like to steer clear of the constant buzz of the city, opt for a bed and breakfast or guesthouse in the countryside surrounding the city; avoid the town's outskirts.

  • Lovely little museum, amazing cafe attached with reasonable pricing. If you get the chance, on a nice day go to the outdoor seating! It has an amazing view of the river and a lovely little lawn usually full of people.
  • Greatly enjoyed the Yeats /Henry exhibition. Very uncrowded compared with London; time and space to see the pictures. Staff lent us an exhibition catalogue which is well worth buying.
  • A beautiful place. Filled with interesting exhibits. A must see for limerick visitors.
  • Beautiful place to enjoy on a Sunday. Nice little pocket of history in the city
  • A fine collection of artifacts from all ages, well worth a visit.
