Hunt Museum, Limerick

(4.1/5 based on 500+ reviews on the web)
View the personal collection of the Hunt family at Hunt Museum, housed inside an 18th-century customs house. John and Gertrude Hunt were antique dealers and collectors devoted to artifacts from Ireland's past. Some of the oldest pieces date back to the Stone Age, but the highlights of the collection are the Irish objects from the medieval period as well as the Mary Queen of Scots cross in the jewelry gallery. Each part of the collection is displayed in refurbished rooms, taking advantage of the building's original architecture. The historical museum sits where the east quays begin, and a small marina is nearby; you'll recognize it by its gray stone exterior. Join one of the daily guided tours, or stroll through the rooms on your own. Plan to visit Hunt Museum during your Limerick vacation using our convenient Limerick itinerary builder.

  • The Hunt Museum collects, exhibits, preserves, documents, and promotes the Hunt Collection, and its own collections, to maximise their cultural and educational potential for the people of Limerick and Ireland.
  • An unusual museum in that it combines an archaeological collection with an art collection, each with some very high quality pieces.
  • Very wide variety of objects here from Egyptian and pre-Christian to more modern times. Entrance fees are very reasonable.
  • I liked the mixture of contemporary and ancient pieces. Irish artifacts were especially intriguing as well as the Christian art in the lower level.
  • Good collection of historic documents and items
