Kylemore Abbey & Victorian Walled Garden
Founded by Benedictine nuns who fled Belgium during World War I, Kylemore Abbey & Victorian Walled Garden occupy the estate of a 19th century castle, built to house the family of a wealthy London doctor. Although large sections of the property remain closed to visitors, you can take a guided tour of its Gothic chapel, main hall, and walled garden, one of the last built in Ireland during the Victorian period. Intersected by walkways and manicured flowerbeds, the garden contains a series of greenhouses, two of which have been restored to their full Victorian glory. The estate also features a gift shop and three dining venues, including a traditional teahouse using nuns' recipes for cakes and scones, baked fresh daily. Fascinating home and lovely, extensive gardens. We enjoyed seeing all of the vegetables as well as flowers and trees. Well worth the drive from Galway.

Spent a wonderful day here on Fathers day. With four small kids, always looking for something new to do and it didn't disappoint. Beautiful setting, fabulously kept. All staff we encountered were warm and friendly and welcoming. The place was immaculate and all public areas were clean and tidy. Bathrooms were really clean too which is rare. The food in the restaurant was also great. Great value for a family too. Highly recommend a visit.

Such beautiful surroundings, the views alone are stunning. We heard a cuckoo three times, the first time I've heard one in 25 years. The Gothic Church, very sad story behind why it was built but what a fantastic legacy, Margaret Henry's life and memory will live on forever. The house itself is beautiful, but the walled gardens, wow. There is a shuttle bus running from the house to the gardens so we took it with the intention of walking back, but it's a decent enough spin to the gardens so we got the bus back too! The gardens are stunning. Make sure you bring your camera and good walking shoes. We visited the cafe, the food was lovely. Toilets everywhere, every toilet was clean and well stocked. The gift shop is lovely too and we bought a few souvenirs, very reasonably priced. Had a lovely day.

Kylemore Abbey is as pretty as it is before and during the pandemic. There might be some slight changes about wearing masks indoors and outdoor dining, but everything is still breathtaking. You'd feel actually safe as you walk through the trails and commune with nature along the way. It's such a lovely walk, with magnificent view too

I love visiting Kylemore Abbey. It has been five years since we were last there and there were a lot of changes. I really loved the dining room and how close you could get to the items on display. There was a guide there who informed us of her presence and offered to explain things to us if we needed it. I loved the videos informing us of the history to the Abbey. The cafe served really great food. The gardens are wonderful and very well maintained.

Ah absolutely incredible day. Well worth the trip. From the moment you arrive to the moment you leave everybody is so pleasant and helpful. A stunningly spiritual place where I hope to visit again. Thanks to all the fantastic staff we met along the way.
