Gap of Dunloe, Killarney

4.7
Created by glacial ice millions of years ago and located just outside the country's oldest national park, the narrow Gap of Dunloe contains five lakes interlinked by the Loe River. Most visitors choose to discover this mountain pass, which stretches for about 11 km (7 mi), by hiking or riding a bike through it. Many boat operators touring the five lakes offer bikes for rent, but you can also explore the pass by taking a guided pony-cart tour, provided by the locals living in this area. Whatever your mode of transportation, be sure to stop at the old "Wishing Bridge," located between the first two lakes and so named because of local belief that wishes made upon it always come true. • This gap driven with rainy weather, but still very worthwhile. We have driven the gap in the evening, then there are no wagons on this stretch of road. The road is narrow. With oncoming traffic is the give and take. After this gap drove the Ballaghasheen Pass, a nice sequel.

  • IR went with the edges on the CAP and were very enthusiastic about the Lamdschaft! Be sure to walk or better with the wheel experience. From Ross Castle as en boat take the wheels can you take with you, and then from Brandon's cottage after a short but very steep climb, enjoy the ride banknote

  • In July to Gap of Dunloe, first a walk. Please note there are also carriages (horse and carriage) on the way! Disadvantage that no one hiking trail is, you walk out on the open road. But you will be treated to a phenomenal environment. After finished the route by car, this was pretty exciting, but if you are careful to do is to do it. Not recommended for inexperienced riders ...

Where to stay in Killarney

Travelers visit Killarney for the national park surrounding it, and there are plenty of places to stay in town that capitalize on the natural beauty of the valley setting. Because of its popularity, Killarney has more hotel beds than any other town or city in Ireland other than Dublin. Stay at a hotel or hostel in the town's center near the bustling corner of Main Street and East Avenue Road, or find a place along the side streets off Main Street for easy access to tourist shops, local pubs, and restaurants. There are plenty of affordable bed and breakfasts or guesthouses just within walking distance from the center, or you can stay outside of town at a scenic farmhouse or luxurious resort.
