  • Kells is the Augustinian Priory founded about in 1193, is a unique example of a fortified monastery which combines elements of religious architecture and late medieval military architecture. The real jewel of Kells that is the Book of Kells (Leabhar Cheanannais in Irish) that we can now see in Dublin in Trinity College. In 1654 the Governor sent the book of Kells in Dublin to save him by Cromwell's troops who were stationed in Kells leaving the places that had guarded for about 800 years.

  • The parish church (Church of Ireland) has a nice graveyard with three quite nice large, old celtic crosses. We had a nice walk about in sunday morning when grounds were open.  more »
  • Our granddaughters had never visited any part of Ireland before. They were amazed at the art work. They had never seen ancient monasteries. It was a marvelous experience for them.  more »
