Loftus Hall, Hook Head

4.0
#2 of 17 in Historic Sites in County Wexford
Tour the spooky Loftus Hall, an abandoned house claimed to be haunted by a young woman's ghost and the devil himself. The current structure was built in the 19th century, though the property has been used since the Middle Ages. The house features a spectacular staircase; the only other known staircases of this design are in the sunken Titanic ship and inside the Vatican. You can take guided tours, or rent a bike and ride around the Hook peninsula. • If you are into ghouls, ghosts and supernaturals then come see this place. It looks scary alright but what makes this place even more eerie is how the staff portrays it to be. I would not recommend fo...  more »

  • Our tour guide Mary was fantastic! Extremely knowledgeable of the home and its history. Shes a wonderful storyteller!! The house itself is amazing and definitely worth a stop! I'll definitely go back for one if the evening tours next time!!
  • Fascinating place with an interesting history. Tour is informative although with some young kids on it I think the guide tactfully toned scary things down slightly. The venue is a treasure albeit almost derelict and I admire what they're trying to achieve with the on going restoration project. Beautiful location too.
  • The tour was too short and too expensive. Two stars because I enjoyed seeing the famous staircase, but taking a picture was prohibited. I thought the actors were funny, not really scary, but charming nonetheless.
  • I enjoyed the tour for the most part I think I would have enjoyed it more had it been adult only or later at night perhaps as I'm sure it was, quite rightly, toned down for the young ones in the group with us. Our tour guide Mary was animated and engaging throughout, and all staff I met there were cheerful and friendly. On the downside I felt that the €2 charge on parking after having paid a tenner each for the tour, as well as paying for teas and coffee and snacks etc., was a little much and it felt greedy if I'm being honest. Would be far more inviting if parking were free. Overall I would go again, perhaps to one of their lock in events. It's a beautiful ruin of a hall with a lot of interesting architectural points even if you're not into the ghost angle and it's location is unsurpassed.
  • Last tour of the day 7-22-17. Very small group. Sara was our tour guide. She was incredible. Very knowledgeable and engaging. She really liked what she was doing and was very good at it. Answered and asked lots of questions and shared her own personal accounts at Loftus Hall. Highly recommend! 5+stars.
