Mizen Head Visitor Centre, Goleen
Categories: Geologic Formations, Visitor Centers, Traveler Resources, Nature & Parks
With a view over the most southwestern point of Ireland, Mizen Head Visitor Centre was once a signal station for ships and home of the first radio beacon in Ireland. The rocky coast may pose a danger to sailors, but its crags topped with green plateaus are a pleasure for the eye. The high cliffs provide a scenic point for the visitor center and a maritime museum. A path with 99 steps leads to the station across the Arched Bridge. Stop on your way up to see if you can spot dolphins, whales, and seals. There is a fee to enter the visitor center; once inside, stroll through the several exhibits, including photography, stories of lighthouse keepers, and a working weather station. Highlights include a navigational simulator that gives you taste of life at sea and 500 individually crafted tiles in the "Sky to Seabed" exhibit. Replenish your energy at the on-site cafe. Put Mizen Head Visitor Centre into our Goleen vacation route planner to see other points of interest to visit during your vacation in Goleen.
