Micil Distillery, Galway

Micil Irish Poitín is named after my great – great - great grandfather Micil Mac Chearra and created in a time-honoured tradition. Five generations have preserved the craft, producing this unique poitín spirit for family and friends. It is my privilege to share with you a spirit steeped in heritage yet of its time. Every bottle is carefully handcrafted in our micro-distillery in Galway using 100% Irish grain and bogbean botanical. From its initial hint of spice, honey and lightly toasted malt through to its smooth velvety finish, this is a poitín to truly savour.

In Micil’s words:

“Sláinte mhaith!”

(To good health!)

  • Great to see a local brewery with my mates. Based in Salthill and close to beach where we relaxed on the Saturday. I would recommend this to ant whiskey lover  more »
  • Had a great time at the poitín tour. Lots of samples given to taste plus mixers. Great value for money. Really interesting history learnt about this type of alcohol  more »
  • Great tour and even better gin! Love the history and story of this brand. Well presented and very authentic.  more »
  • Great tour, good information! Book online before, but we booked in the morning and it was no problem. Check out their website. Go through the pub "micro distillery" is labelled outside. Very generous with the tastings too!
  • Great time on the tour. Excellent Gin. We were there about 2 months ago and wish we could go back. If I had to pick a negative is you can't get Micil in the US! That needs to change ASAP!
  • Should be clear this is not a distillery you can just come see. Rather it is a small establishment of some sort found by going through a smoke filled smoking section of this rather dirty pub. And it’s not open for you to stop by. Must book a tour or something. Perhaps the tour is good but this listing on google is very misleading of what business is.
  • It's what a craft distillery should be about. Great story and story teller and wonderful product. Good job
  • Really interesting to hear true craftsmen talk about their trade. Padraic and Padraic were really nice to talk to and wery knowledgeable. Their Poitin is great, but I think their Gin is even better.
