  • Charming 16th-century building, situated in the Centre of Galway: belonged to one of the most important families of the city.

  • Currelntly a location of Bank of Ireland - good for currency exchange, the entryway has a small area dedicated to the building as a seat of a medieval family. The intact fireplace mantle is a highligh...  more »

  • Free! I'm all about the free historical and tourist sites and this one is an easy spot. It's a bank so you can go in if you want but you really only need to see the outside. Read up on Lynch's castle via google first!
  • It is now an AIB Bank. You can see the building exterior anytime and some of the interior when the bank is open. Not bad, but not really distinctive enough to go out of your way. If you're exploring the city center you'll likely run across it.
  • Nice building to walk past but almost every aib has that clean stone look anyway.
  • It's a bank in an old castle
  • Interesting site to visit while in galway

Where to stay in Galway

Stay at the center of Ireland's "Most Irish City," Galway City, by booking a hotel or hostel near Eyre Square, from which all city sights are walkable. If you prefer accommodation with more character, stay at a charming guesthouse or bed and breakfast just outside of the center, or look for lodging in the city's Latin Quarter, a bohemian neighborhood lined with cafes, galleries, and pubs. If you want to explore Galway County, book accommodations in the city, since it's a tourism and transportation hub on the West Coast. If you prefer the quiet countryside, seek out small, family-owned guesthouses on the Aran Islands or a cottage on the Connemara Peninsula.
