Trip Planner: Europe / Ireland / Province of Leinster / County Wexford / Fethard On Sea / Historic Sites / Hook Lighthouse
Active for 800 years, Hook Lighthouse represents the oldest operational lighthouse in the world. The lighthouse has been active since the structure was finished in the 13th century. William Marshal, the Earl of Pembroke, built this Norman tower in partnership with his Lordship of Leinster. Take a guided tour, which ends at the top of the lighthouse with stunning views of the natural surroundings. Watch for seals, dolphins, and whales in the nearby waters. If you've worked up an appetite, head to the cafe or enjoy a picnic on site. For a souvenir, visit the gift shop. We brought Japanese guests on a very enjoyable visit to Hook Lighthouse. The tour was very well organised and very informative. The tour guide, Anne, was excellent and imparted the knowledge with a keen sense of humour. She was very engaging and patient with the young children, which added to the overall enjoyment of the tour. She even offered to take group photographs on the external gallery and was generous with her time and information. Would highly recommend this location for a visit and a tour.
Fantastic place to visit with amazing history going back to the 12th century. Perfect the whole family 👪
Great visit to the oldest operational lighthouse in the world. The guide was very informative
The lighthouse is really cool with a great tour. And there's lots to do in the area. We went on a day out from Dublin but if we'd had time it would have been nicer to stay in the area for a few days.
Great place, have been here several times over the years and have always loved it here.
