Áras an Uachtaráin, Dublin

4.3
#12 of 34 in Historic Sites in Dublin
Sitting grandly in Phoenix Park, Áras an Uachtaráin serves as the official residence of the President of Ireland. Though the building started as a brick house for the park's ranger in 1751, today this stately structure resembles the iconic White House in Washington, D.C. Admire the grand exterior or pop into the visitor's center to arrange a guided tour, which grants access to some of the state rooms and includes lots of information about the history of the park, house, and presidency of Ireland. For travelers who use our custom trip planner, Dublin holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Áras an Uachtaráin and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

We saw the Irish White House, residence of the President of the Republic, while visiting Phoenix Park. Set in a natural environment almost untouched, is truly impressive.

Seen only by wide and outside. But looks like the White House in Washington. Only less imposing and guarded. Cottage chic for the Irish President.

I was lucky to snag the last tour ticket of the day, no charge! The tour guide was very friendly, and made sure all questions were answered along the way. Very beautiful building, with a lot of history.

Where to stay in Dublin

Dublin offers everything from luxury hotels to eclectic guesthouses. Explore over 1,000 years of history in the city on foot by staying at one of the hotels or hostels in the city center. The south side of the river has always been a popular place to stay, particularly near Temple University or the tourist nightlife center Temple Bar, but a new crop of attractive options has popped up on the north side as well. For more affordable accommodations, try a hostel or make your way toward St. Stephen's Green for a more comfortable stay at a mid-range hotel. If the artistic spirit of Dublin is what beckoned you, spend your holiday in a guesthouse near the creative Lower Gardiner Street.
