Trip Planner: Europe / Ireland / Province of Leinster / County Dublin / Dalkey / Dalkey Castle and Heritage Centre
Transport yourself through time when you visit Dalkey Castle and Heritage Centre, a castle and cultural center offering experiences like a live theater performance with costumed actors. Climb the battlements to overlook the sea and mountains. This castle serves as an entrance to the heritage center, where your blast into the past continues. Follow the interactive timeline as it takes you through early Christian, Viking, medieval, and Victorian times to the present day. If your schedule allows, check out St. Begnet's church and graveyard just outside, too. This seaside harbor has been home to many celebrities and writers, including Bono and Jane Emily Herbert. The castle is rendered very interactive place that leads to the discovery of its history and the history of the Ireland. Thanks especially to Peter guide at the Castle who passes his knowledge with passion and is ready to advise for the rest of the Dalkey visits!
I brought my three grandchildren, two boys and a girl, aged 10, 8 and 6. They thoroughly enjoyed being brought around the castle and the interaction of the guides/actors who were dressed in period cos... more »

This was much more impressive than I expected. The Heritage Centre was really interesting and the tour of the church and castle was great. I don't always enjoy interactive role-playing but this was extremely well done. Would definitely recommend!
The castle is not big, but live role playing characters make the experience interactive and fun. Good city view from the roof as well.
Easy to find, very close to Dalkey dart station. Staff were friendly and helpful. Guide was excellent and actors were entertaining and informative. Very accomadating for groups and visitors for whom English is not their first language. Tour was very interactive and we especially enjoyed making coins at tbe end of the tour, great souvenir. Would recommend a visit here!
The best experience. To spend time here in the best village in Ireland., by the sea the best views of the Irish sea from the Vico road. All beside the castle… and surroundings . Great restaurants. Cafes. Pubs. All in the village of great history .10 out of.10
I'm a 46 year old male and from the US. This tour is great for groups or individuals. There are plenty of local places to eat nearby, and you're about a 2 minute drive from the beach which is also a must-see! The staff is so unbelievably kind, knowledgeable and talented that I cannot even explain. My group of 3 arrived an hour late after coming from the Glendalough Monastic Site in the Wicklow Mountains. There were no other time slots to accommodate us before their next full group would be arriving within the hour. So, they pulled their unbelievably talented historians, actors and actresses together AND GAVE US A PRIVATE 45 MINUTE TOUR! I was so shocked and humbled by this action that I regretted being late even more than I had originally! The tour was nothing short of FANTASTIC. From the graveyard, through the grounds to the top of the keep, staff dressed in period attire educated us on every aspect of this beautiful castle, and the learning experience was nothing short of AMAZING! Defining phrases whose meanings are lost to history such as "a square meal" and others I now knew as a result of their thorough explanations regarding nearly every aspect of life in middle ages (including how to blood let!). This tour is special because of the actors. actresses, and the comical twist they put on each story told. They had me laughing loud enough to embarrass myself! To top it off they have a gift shop that has some really unique items, such as Connemara marble coasters!!! Connemara marble was an item we were searching for on our trip and had yet to find it sold anywhere. Well we found it here along with the most talented, friendly and professional group of people I met on my trip to Ireland. I HIGHLY recommend this must-see tour and castle, and I thank all of the staff at Dalkey for a most wonderful experience on our trip to Ireland. Thank you all, and we will see you again next time (don't worry - I'll be on time next time :).
